The US Capitol Police K-9 building in Washington D.C. recently earned the EPA’s Energy Star Rating. The Energy Star rating recognizes buildings and facilities that incorporate proven energy management strategies. SEA’s Resource Efficiency Manager was an integral part in this accomplishment. SEA is currently working with the Architect of the Capitol staff identifying opportunities to conserve energy. The US Capitol Police K-9 building is a state-of-the-art facility, which is comprised of staff offices,, a classroom designed to enhance the education and capabilities of the K-9 handlers, as well as kennels for the K-9’s. The facility was remodeled in 2003 to include many energy conservation systems and components.  Since that time, projects such as roof insulation, heat recovery, new heat pump units, retrofitted lighting, LED lighting and automated HVAC scheduling have been implemented. The grounds include parking and an enclosed park-like setting where the K-9s are trained.
