U.S. Naval Academy

Energy and Water Assessment

Location: Annapolis, MD
Owner: U.S. Naval Academy

Sain Engineering Associates’ work with universities includes a large energy and water audit of selected facilities at the U.S. Naval Academy, the undergraduate college for the Navy. The U.S. Naval Academy is a 338 acre campus located in Annapolis, Maryland. The entire campus is a designated National Historic Landmark.

SEA was able to recommend energy savings for a variety of facilities including administrative offices, cafés, dormitories, classrooms, gymnasiums, athletic centers, libraries, and assembly halls. SEA utilized computer energy models to actively seek energy conservation opportunities while maintaining faculty and student comfort and increasing productivity. SEA worked with the client to develop criteria for project bundling of energy conservation measures (ECMs). The maximum Return on Investments, life cycle costing and total project costs were included in the calculators. Some of the major recommendations included:

  •  Retro‐commissioning
  •  Lighting Upgrades
  •  HVAC Control Upgrades
  •  Heat Pump Upgrades
  •  Boiler Upgrades
  •  VFD Installation
  •  Ground And Roof‐Mounted PV Systems
  •  Building Envelope Improvements
