NAS Whidbey Island

Renewable Technologies

Location: Whidbey Island
Owner: U.S. Navy

In 2011, Sain Engineering Associates (SEA) performed a comprehensive energy audit of 53 buildings representing approximately 1,710,498 sq. ft. at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island. SEA identified 15 ECMs involving the following technologies for an estimated savings of $1,758,336 per year:

  • Solar Measures
  • Lighting Upgrades and Controls
  • Water Conservation Measures
  • Building Envelope Measures
  • Hot Water Measures
  • HVAC Controls
  • HVAC Measures
  • Pool Cover Measure
  • Cogeneration

Solar Thermal

In 2011, Sain Engineering Associates (SEA) performed power generation calculations and cost savings calculations to determine if power generation using solar energy was a viable option for NAS Whidbey Island. The analysis identified an annual cost savings and an estimated implementation cost for a roof-mounted solar thermal system.

Cogeneration

In 2011, Sain Engineering Associates (SEA) performed power generation and cost savings calculations to determine if cogeneration in a steam power plant was a viable option for NAS Whidbey Island. The analysis identified an annual cost savings and an estimated implementation cost for installation and material costs of an output turbine.
