Energy and Water Assessments

Location: China Lake, CA
Owner: U.S. Navy

Statement of Work:

SEA performed energy and water assessments of the facility including: building energy efficiency simulations, cost evaluations, life cycle saving analysis, investigation of HVAC systems and controls, uninterrupted power supply systems, lighting systems, envelope, process load, plug load, water heating, water conservation, thermal storage systems, and renewable energy including wind and photovoltaic.

Results:

Our recommendations of more than $20,000,000 included the following:

  • Water Conservation
  • Upgrade Fluorescent Lighting
  • Lighting Controls
  • Destratification Fans
  • Constant Volume AHUs to VAV
  • Variable Speed Pumping
  • Premium Efficiency Motors
  • Frequency Converters
  • Fume Hood Improvements
  • DDC Improvements
  • Window Upgrades – Acceptable with Historical Standards
  • Daylight Harvesting

The savings analysis revealed close to $1.2 million dollars per year of avoided cost. The savings in energy and water will be obtained by not using nearly 2,500 kilogallons of water, nearly 5,000 MWh of electricity, and greater than 10,000 MBTU in gas.
