SEA is currently under contract to perform CxA building commissioning services for Northwest Shoals Community College. This includes two facilities, construction of the new Cosmetology Building and renovations to Building 110. SEA is commissioning all energy using systems including the building envelope, HVAC and controls, domestic hot water, and lighting controls. The scope of work for this project calls for building envelope air pressurization and depressurization testing as well as Testing, Adjusting, and Balancing (TAB).
The building envelope air pressurization and depressurization testing has proven to be particularly successful in the renovations to Building 110 where the design-specified air handling units were initially incorrectly sized. The pressurization tests proved substantial leaks in the building envelope meaning that the HVAC units were unable to efficiently handle the building load. After the problem was identified during the pressurization tests, the issue was able to be resolved prior to the building opening.
SEA also collaborated with Northwest-Shoals in order to share the experienced of the commissioning process with HVAC students at NWS providing them with hands-on, real-life, real-time experience.
