Resource Efficiency Managers

Sain Engineering Group

Sain Engineering Associates, Inc. GovEnergy Conference - Phoenix, Arizona, August 3, 2008

Are you a federal energy program manager responsible for one or more sites? Is it a challenge to get efficiency projects implemented? Are you under funded? Under staffed? Need help? Are you familiar with the Resource Efficiency Manager (“REM”) program that may offer a solution to your problems?

What is a REM?

A Resource Efficiency Manager is a full-time on-site energy professional whose primary focus is to facilitate your energy and water program to achieve the site’s conservation goals and save money.  The REM works with your staff and personnel to find solutions to inefficient practices and promotes energy and water conservation and capture opportunities for renewable energy.  The REM is required to save as much as they cost – – the REM “earns their keep.”  Also, the REM does not count against your end strength personnel budget (such as total obligation authority “TOA”).  REMs have a longstanding history with the federal government.  Over the past ten years the REM concept has been supporting various federal agencies such as the Air Force, Army, Navy, Coast Guard, General Services Administration, and Postal Service with REM services.

What can the REM do for you?

The REM can provide a variety of services including:

  • Energy Awareness
    • Training & Marketing of the Program
  • O&M Improvements
    • Utility Rates & Billing Reviews
    • Low/No-Cost Efficiency Improvement Options
  • Project Facilitation
    • Finding funds – ECIP, Rebates, Grants, Alternative Financing, etc
    • Assistance with Alternatively Financed Projects
    • Performance Assurance of Alternatively Financed Projects
    • New Building Design Review
  • Program Management Support
  • Other Energy Program Support as Assigned

Who are our REMs?

We have REMs placed at Federal sites all over the country.  Included on the right is a list of all of our REMs along with their profile for you to learn more about them.
